Today’s blog post is more interesting this time. For a while I was constantly thinking about publishing this post but wanted to focus more on the content and make sure everything is as planned. So here it is and enjoy reading.

Designed apparel

Since late 2016 I decided to design my own clothes. The idea was there but I didn’t feel I was ready to start producing my own designed clothes! A lot of questions popped up in my mind like ‘what kind of fabric will I use?’ ‘Will this design really work?’ … etc. But when I took the first step I found it to be easier than I thought before. The first step can always be the hardest but it’s worth it in the end.

Being precise in exactly what I wanted to design makes everything easier than adding too little details. In the past, I used to draw a first sketch and leave the drawing as it was. With time, I learned to add as many details and notes to make the whole drawing pop up more.

Baby Pink

My very first designed clothes was a baby pink jacket with a belt. Since the fabric is thick it’s suitable for fall/winter. Kuwait’s weather is hot so wearing it even in Spring is not a very good idea.

Patterned Short Dress

Last year I partnered with a new brand called ‘Estilo’. Estilo is a textile design company that is specialized in designing patterns and producing fabrics (premade and customized). So what I did was that I designed this short dress using one of Estilo’s fabric which turned beautiful.

Maroon Dress

This dress is a little bit different. It was designed similar to the patterned short dress you saw above but with twists, different fabric, and different hem.

Wide Black Pants ( Skirt Pant )

Rather than designing the regular stick pants I wanted to go with a wide legged pants instead. Since I’m petit I don’t always find suitable wide pants for me so I decided to produce my own for my size. It looks amazing and suits my body a lot.

Designed Jewelry

The other category I worked on the past months was jewelry design. This is all part of opening my mind to new opportunities. Designing jewelry differs from designing clothes or merely sketching a light sketch. Producing jewelry is a little bit complicated and you have to be as precise when drawing the necklace or ring you want to produce.

Since this is a personal project, I decided to produce my own name. Whenever I wear it I feel that it gives a special vibe to me.

New Painting Space

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

I worked on arranging my small art studio last month. I love my new painting space that I can’t wait to record myself painting live!

It did make a difference and a positive change to me these days. I never thought that it could boost my energy that much. When I recorded myself in the past and when I actually paint or draw, my art table was full of paints and art tools that I didn’t have much space to paint on. It was such a mess that I couldn’t record myself. But now it’s totally different and I’m loving my new organized space.

I went to IKEA last month and bought many storage boxes. I bought acrylic and paper boxes and luckily they were enough to store my tools and paints. I still need to work more on my room but I’m loving how organized it looks at the moment. As long as I have a good space to record myself with, that’s all that matters.

Even the angles I shoot from are different and I’m loving my new photo-shoot trend. I still think that I need to work on the lightening, though. Yet, the colors still look vibrant and preppy which gives a lovely feeling of an art studio.

For this blog post I’m posting some of my latest photos which you can find in my Instagram: @anwaar.saleh.

What kept me busy? (Part 1)

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Remember in my last blog post I mentioned having a busy schedule? I’ll tell you what kept me busy aside from the festival’s preparations.

For years I studied Japanese language by myself. I relied on the internet jumping from one source to the other until I understood the language. Since I didn’t have anyone to converse with, I started forgetting most of the vocabulary I learned throughout the years as well as the grammar. I then decided to translate lyrics and novels to refresh my memory and learn more along the way.

So, for the first time in my life I joined a Japanese language course last November. It was a dream for me to step up and show my interest in learning/knowing Japanese. However, I didn’t know of any institution that teaches the language until that day when I saw an ad on Instagram.

I called up the institution and agreed on their terms then joined the course for a whole month. Before registering, though, I made sure the teacher was of Japanese origin. Else I would’ve canceled and searched for another institution. I decided to start the language class as soon as possible for I knew my schedule will always be busy from now on. Now, I feel so glad I did join one for I can always go for the higher level and socialize with other Japanese learners.

As I mentioned, the course went for a whole month, 3 times a week, and for 2 hours. It was exciting but tiring as well. Japanese is known to be a difficult language. So at the end of each class I felt a headache. But I did enjoy the material the teacher gave me. Above all, having a teacher to guide me meant a lot. Therefore, if I had a question or needed a guidance to study further I have someone to ask.

At the last class, my Japanese teacher invited to the National Day party that took place at the Japan Embassy in Kuwait. I was debating whether to go or not until the time of the party. At the end I decided to go. It was my very first time attending such a formal party where Ambassadors from different Embassy where there as well as Japanese citizens.

Since it’s a Japanese party so the dinner was all sush and sashimi (which is heaven :D). The place was crowded so I didn’t get to taste everything but was really grateful for the invitation. I truly did enjoy my time and was happy to be there.

After all of this, I’m thinking of studying Japanese even more and I’ll practice the language as much as I can. It’s a loss to start and discontinue, isn’t it?

Eid 2016

Yesterday was the first day of Eid!

We usually suffer from a change in our sleeping habit because of Ramadan, so most people sleep during the day and wake up late to start celebrating Eid.

Eid runs for three days. During that time, we usually gather, go out, and celebrate the end of Ramadan and the end of fasting. Those three days are like a prize for fasting a whole month :).

Unfortunately, I didn’t sleep at night. The good thing is unlike the past years, I had enough time to prepare before leaving my home. We usually gather at our grandparents’ houses and close relatives.

I left home at around 10 am headed towards my grandparents’ (my father’s) house. Luckily there wasn’t any traffic so my drive was smooth. I didn’t stay there for too long for I had to head for my second grandparents’ house (my mother’s side).

And since I could drink coffee, my sister and I headed to the nearest Starbucks. I had a regular latte. We stayed for a short while before returning home. Then we left again to have lunch in a restaurant called ‘Terrace Grill’. My eldest sister and I shared two dishes. Veal chops and grilled chicken with mac and cheese as a side order. The meal was absolutely delicious. From there I went back to my grandparents’ house and later went home to relax for the rest of the day.

Actually I didn’t relax completely for I still had few things to work on. I wrote a quick to-do list for my snapchat and instagram content. Also, I colored a sketch I finished few days back. I still don’t have confidence in my coloring skills which is why I tend to leave most of my sketches uncolored. This time I illustrated Bella Hadid in her red Versace dress. I did progress a little in coloring the dress but I need to work on the shading and highlights.

I draw daily, which is why I don’t always notice any progress I make.

When I first started fashion illustrating, I was on the verge of giving up. I didn’t have my own style at that time and didn’t know where to begin.

But one day I got the chance to look at some of my old drawings and I was beyond shocked. I never knew that I progressed that much already! That gave me a boost to continue.

I took photos of some illustrations I drew last February:

1 2

As you can see, my drawings lack lots of details. That, and the size is much smaller than the ones I draw now! I don’t know why I used to sketch them this small, lol. Perhaps one of the reasons is that the sketchbook I was using is small to begin with.

Gradually, I started progressing. I drew almost every single day just to improve. And instead of the small sketchbook I used, I started purchasing bigger ones to help me draw in a large scale. I mean if I want to sell a print customers wouldn’t want to see a tiny drawn model, lol.

As for the materials, I mainly use copics. I have a set of 72 ciao copics + few sketch + few classic markers. Sadly, I still don’t have all shades but I can certainly work with the current shades I have. As for pencils, I love mechanical pencils. They’re clean and you can refill it easily. Especially when sketching, I love using it because it keeps your sketch clean.

For brushes, I use regular ones from any Stationery or crafts store.

Below is my collection of acrylics and gouache paints.

Before ending this post, do not forget to sign up for my new class on how to draw patterns on fashion illustrations: The free enrollment links will expire on June 30th. So if you want to register for free here is the link:

Remember my online teaching class? I published all videos yesterday!

Now you can access the class and take your time watching the clips and working on your project. As I mentioned in my previous post, I uploaded a 1-minute intro video on YouTube: And I uploaded the same video in my personal and brand instagrams.

If you click on link below, you’ll get 3 months of Skillshare Premium for only $0.99 for unlimited access to this and thousands of online classes:

Or you can access the class here:

Again, this is a short course of 16 minutes. And this definitely will not be my last class. You can follow me on twitter, instagram, and snapchat for any updates. And you can also watch my designs and illustrating process in my social accounts too.

Since I didn’t get to draw and paint the sketch I used in the video, I may upload a short clip of the process soon. Also, I’d like to talk more about the materials I use for painting and may as well record another video and upload it on YouTube.

Drawing Patterns Online Course

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

I was going to wait a little bit longer before publishing this post but I couldn’t wait!

For few months I had in mind undergoing a new experience. Which is teaching. I was going to hold an actual teaching course but I didn’t have enough time to prepare. It was two weeks before Ramadan that I finally decided to give it a try. And those two weeks weren’t enough at all. Anyway, I stopped preparations and focused on my daily sketching routine.

I joined last year and I’ve been keeping an eye for classes related to my brand and specialization. I enrolled in many classes but didn’t finish all of them. I liked how organized the website is and the whole teaching process is made easy. I never thought that teaching online is not that hard!

Which is why …. I’m challenging myself by teaching online in Skillshare!

It’s a new experience for me and I definitely am shaky and a little worried. English is not my first language which feels like an obstacle to me. Second, I’m not familiar with the whole teaching thing which makes me indecisive sometimes on the way I should be transmitting certain ideas. Yet, as long as I have the opportunity to try teaching online for the first time ever I will grab this chance and learn from my mistakes later.

So without any further a due, here are the details:

Below is a 1-minute intro to the course:

Title: Drawing Patterns on Fashion Illustrations.

Since my main specialization is patterns I decided to give out this short course on patterns.

The duration of this online course is around 16 minutes, and I chose two patterns to illustrate. The first one is lace and the second is golden swirls. Since it’s not a full course I’m illustrating them quickly while explaining how to do so.

I’m publishing the intro video tonight and will begin uploading the rest of the videos the next couple of days. So you access the project here:

The Rampage by Exile

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

While looking through the videos and pictures stored in my iPhone, I remembered few clips I took while I was in Kyoto station.

When I first arrived with my family at Kyoto station we heard loud music, and cheering. I got eager to take a look at what was going on there. I was pretty sure that there was some kind of a concert going on there but I didn’t know the performer nor the occasion.

After lunch and before going back to the hotel (the hotel was located in Kyoto station itself), I decided to take a look and witness such a thing for the first time. I got up to where the concert was and I was surprised by the number of people present. Fan girls screamed cheering for the band while the rest sat watching. To my surprise, the band was none other than …

The Rampage by Exile!!!!

Actually when I heard the screams I thought they were Exile themselves especially the kind of songs that were playing were dancing songs. I hoped that they released an album or single the time I was in Japan but sadly they were touring. I think their finale is on May 18th.

The good thing is that I was able to record some clips of them singing, dancing, and talking. Also, I got to record them while taking a selfie with their fans which was such a lovely scene!

I was able to record them while singing and dancing too but I can’t seem to upload them in this post. I’m also working on writing the lyrics for the song I recorded :). So if I’m able to catch the words I will update this post.

Below are partial lyrics for one of their songs:

This is a lie
この間違ない better feel 始まりの時
I gotta find a way

Selfie me!

I don’t feel confident taking photos of myself.

I struggled a lot until I accepted the fact that it’s not a bad thing to take a selfie. I spent time taking pictures using different angles until I found the angle that works best for me. I yet to master taking a selfie of myself, hehehe.

Those pictures are from my last trip to Turkey. Lately, I’ve been taking my makeup bag with me whenever I travel. The only thing I don’t worry about is the foundation for I don’t need to apply it daily. I merely use moisturizer and sun cream.
